Years ago, I would spend the end of the year writing out all of my intentions for the new year. Have you been there too? Things like…
- Hit the gym 4 days a week
- Lose Weight
- Save more money
Most people realize that resolutions don’t work. The definition of Resolution is…
- a firm decision to do or not to do something.
- the act of solving a dispute, problem or contentious matter.
I don’t know about you, but I am not a “problem to be solved.” I am a creative, alive human being. Shifting and growing everyday!
This year I invite you to embrace intentions over resolution.
Definition of intention: a thing intended; an aim or plan, conceptions formed by directing the mind towards an object.
Last year, instead of resolutions, I wrote out what I wanted my life to look like on a deeper level. I talk a lot about intentional living, and this was the perfect way to put into action.
- What did I want my life to be?
- What did I want my business to look like?
- What would I like my physical space to look and feel like?
- Who did I want to surround myself with (and who needed to go)
- What did living a healthier life look like?
So, what is the difference between an Intention and a Resolution?
A resolution is tight and rigid. It either is or it isnt. It is unforgiving. If you miss the “goal” then the negative self talk starts and the “resolution is done”. If I miss my goal of going to the gym 4 days a week, then I have broken the resolution.
But if my intention is to live a healthier lifestyle. That is way more encompassing. I can choose to walk that night instead of the gym. Or meditate for stress relief or make sure I get enough sleep and high quality water. I can also surround myself with positive people that support my mission in life. All of these things lead to the intention of a healthier life.
Intentional living is a deeper commitment, it takes cultivating.
It has room and EASE (one of my intentions for 2019). It is something that you aim to achieve by ongoing steps and action. It is creation in motion.
As 2018 comes to a close, I will be celebrating LOTS of amazing achievements in 2018 and releasing a few things that didnt work too.
What is up for you in 2019? What would you like it to look like and BE about? What are you intending for your life and business?
I would love to hear from you!
